Happy Spots of My Home

While I was over at one of my favorite blogs, Smile and Wave, I came across this photo challenge.....Take pictures of your favorite little spots in your house. No matter the clutter, mess, whether its perfect or not. Just take the picture. So I tried. My house is still "under construction" in many ways... as is most homes I guess. But here are a few of my favorite little spots....

My thrifted hutch makes me Very happy!
The way the light hits my glassware...a mix of vintage and new.
Miss Kourt's room...I found that vintage doll crib at the thrift too :)
Sitting outside enjoying a nice fire...
and the way my neighbors bougainvillea always finds its way through our fence and into our yard.
Well those are a few of my favorite little spots in my home. Do you have a spot in your house that just makes you happy?

Go and check out Smile and Wave if you haven't already. Rachel is just the cutest thing with the best style and her kiddos will melt your heart :)

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

In need of some color!

Some things just need a little bit of color...don't you agree? I have to admit, I've been a bit on a spray paint kick lately. NO...I'm not roaming around the streets tagging up the city! I know that's what you were thinking ;o)

But isn't it amazing how you can change something "OK" into something really cool? A little paint can do that.

A while back I bought this Aldo Luongo print at the thrift. I LOVED the picture of the boy and girl holding hands, though the frame was not that cute. I figured I would find a cute frame and replace it. Easy, Right?? Well...I just haven't found the right frame. So instead of keeping the cute picture in the garage, waiting for the "perfect" frame to drop from the sky, I decided, SPRAY PAINT!!

Here's a peek at the "before":
I busted out the spray paint and painters tape:

And Voila!

I didn't realize the I picked a paint that was the same color as Miss Kourt's radio. But oh well...I still like it A LOT better! :) and Kourt loves the new art in her room.

Now the only question left is.....What else can I spray paint???? :)

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

It's Finally Here!

Happy 5 Year Anniversary Babe!!!!!
The last month has flown by! It was so much fun to look back on all the wedding festivities and remember what we were feeling, and remember how much fun we had. Planning a wedding can be really stressful...but it's SO fun all at the same time. Here are some pics of our ceremony. We had a beach wedding with a lot of little touches from Hawaii (where I grew up). It was super casual, relaxed, and just what we wanted :)
I walked down the aisle to our Ukulele Player playing & singing Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow". I absolutely LOVE that song!

Here's to another 5 years babe!!

 I love you

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

Less then a week away!!!

I've been a little behind on posting my countdown, but you'll forgive me, right? I mean come on....last week Miss Aliya left for Hawaii, AND my mom had shoulder replacement surgery!!!! So...yeah...I kinda had a full week.
But now I'll try to get back into the swing of things :)

Yes....In less than a week is my 5 year anniversary!! Whoo, whoo!!!! I'm pretty darn excited...can you tell!! :)  This week I thought I'd post some of our pre-ceremony photos. It was such a exciting and surreal day. Some nerves, but mostly anticipation.

Ok...I hope that wasn't picture overload! :) But there are so many good one's, it's hard to just pick a few :)

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

See you soon!!

So today she left....Aliya is now in Hawaii with her dad for the next month....(yes...Hawaii for ONE month...lucky girl, right?) :)

There were tears (I think mostly from me), but I know she will have a great time there soaking up the terrific Hawaiian weather, and spending time with all her family over there. (and eating some GREAT food I might add) ;) (why does everything refer back to food with me??? ha ha!)

I wonder how Kourt is going to take it?? We've told her that sissy is going on a long trip. But she keeps on asking for her sissy :(

The next month I'm going to keep SUPER busy, like I do every other year she goes to visit, just to make the time fly. Any suggestions on projects or activities??? Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated :)

I luv you baby, and miss you tons....See you soon :)

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

Thrifty Finds

Yup, I've found some good stuff again :) Sometimes it amazes me what you can find at the thrift. "Someone actually gave that away??!!" Do you ever say that to yourself too? Or is it just me?

In my latest visits I've found a vintage Lincoln Beautyware Cake server (MINTY condition, I might add) for about 5 bucks. Yellow Pyrex oval dish, 4 bucks, and a Pyrex Server cradle for a buck!! The cradles are hard to come by, so a soon as I saw this one I snatched it up! :)

As far as this little cutie goes....a very good friend of mine picked this one up for me :) She is adorable!!  She's ceramic and looks vintage...and YES...she bobbles!! :) HAHA!

May the thrifty fairies be on your side :)

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

Shop Update

I told you to keep a lookout for these.....So without further delay....
Lil' Monster Keychains!!!

Aren't they cute!!!

So while I was making these, my oldest daughter said that I should make my BFF hearts into a key chain too....So I did :)

She's a pretty smart cookie :)

Go check out my shop for these little cuties! :)

Off to sew some more and enjoy this gorgeous day that we are having....Thank goodness the humidity has seemed to pass us...for now.

Happy sunday to you!!

Much Aloha,
Monika :)

2 more weeks...almost there :)

Aww...the rehearsal. We had such a good time. We had dinner at this awesome pizza place in Dana Point called Bubba Kahuna's Pizza, pretty fitting since I was having a Hawaiian style beach wedding :) Our wedding was at Salt Creek Beach, and if you've ever been there, you know about the HUGE hill that you have to walk down just to get to the beach. (we rented a golf cart driver to drive our guests to/from the wedding ceremony) So, since we didn't really want to walk down the gigantic hill for our rehearsal, we decided to rehearse in the side parking lot of the pizza place. Yes....a little unconventional, but that's ok....we're kinda unconventional ourselves :)

After the rehearsal, we hung out, ate pizza and everyone had a good time.

It was just what I wanted....A nice relaxing time with family and friends.

Just 2 more weeks until the big 5 Year Anniversary!!! Next week I'll share some of our Pre-Wedding pics.

Much Aloha,
Monika :)
